	Setup and Installation Guide

Welcome to the world of electronic drive by information systems.  This guide will try to provide you with information needed to install and start using this software.  This instruction is intended for users familiar with setting up and operating computers.  For more detailed step by step information on setup please read the manuals provided with your sign.  Files included on this disk:

One of the following files
SMLD.exe	Complete Software package in a self extracting zip file for message centers, single line price signs, and including multiline price signs.
SML.exe		Complete Software for message centers only in a self extracting zip file.
SMLPCH.exe	Software in a self extracting zip file for single line price cahngers only.

INSTALLATION

IMPORTANT NOTE TO CURRENT USERS - If you install/unzip any of the above listed software, you should first copy all existing files with the extension DAT from your current directory (SML, SMLD, PCH, etc) to a different directory for temproary storage.  After unzipping the updated version to the default or selected directory, copy these files to the directory replacing the ones just unzipped.  This will restore your settings for your sign.

1.  Unpack the software by executing the self extracting zip file.  This file has extra folder information saved to extract to the suggested directory \SMLD.  All files are to be placed in one directory.  Including this readme.txt file and the documentation.

2.  Add the following line to your config.sys file if it does not already exist
For W95		DEVICE=C:\windows\command\ansi.sys
For NT		DEVICE=C:\winnt\system32\ansi.sys

NOTE:  Parts of this software must run in a dos compatible environment.  This software is tested and will run in Windows95.  There are still issues for running under NT that require the computer to be restarted in DOS mode.  This is expected to be fixed in a future release.

3.  Restart the computer so that ansi.sys is properly loaded if you needed to add the command to the config.sys file.

4.  In Windows: Create an icon for the software that you will be using to run from Windows.  For using the Windows environment as much as possible you only need one icon.  The main file is pchmenu.exe.  This is the main menu to run all of the software for the message center and the price sign.  If you would like to have separate icon for each of the main functions the Key files are:
pchmenu.exe	Windows Main Menu
smld.exe	Windows Price Sign For Multi-line units only
main.exe	Dos based Message Center Menu
pch.exe		Dos based Price Sign Menu For Older units only

4a.  In DOS mode the files are:
main.exe	Dos based Message Center Menu
pch.exe		Dos based Price Sign For older units only

5.  Start the software and check all the settings for COM Ports, Sign ID, etc before sending anything to your sign.  Default settings are set for COM2 at 9600-baud rate.
